Aquarium Maintenance
Consistent aquarium maintenance has never been easier. With the help of Rift 2 Reef Aquatics in Highland Village, your fish will always enjoy a healthy and comfortable ecosystem.
Our aquatic specialists can keep your aquarium clean and your fish healthy. Our aquarium maintenance services keep your aquarium well-balanced and protect your investment. While you can tackle aquarium maintenance on your own, most families in Highland Village and Arlington prefer to have professionals take care of it. This is because maintaining a large aquarium can become a bit time-consuming and something as small as a slightly out of range pH balance can kill off hundreds of dollars worth of fish and coral. When you hire Rift 2 Reef to care for your fish and aquarium, you’ll get top-notch service and a proven process.

Rift 2 Reef Aquarium Maintenance
One of the first things we’ll do during a regularly scheduled maintenance check is test the aquarium water. We will also test our own water before replacing some of the water in your aquarium to prevent your fish from going into shock. During this process we’ll check vital paramaters like pH, carbonate hardness, nitrite, and nitrate. This is usually done every couple of weeks.
Once we’re positive your water is in good shape, we’ll clean the aquarium walls and water filter. Next up, we carefully vacuum the aquarium gravel, replace the necessary accessory components, and inspect all of the parts that keep your aquarium operational.
Fish Owner Responsibilities
Most of our clientele hire us to perform cleanings and maintenance on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis. Generally, all that leaves for the fish owner to do is feed the fish. While we’ll take care of delivering your frozen fish food which is jam-packed with nutrients, you should monitor how your fish react during feedings. If their behavior changes, that could indicate that there’s a more serious problem. Depending on the type of fish, you may also need to check the lights and heaters. This could help energize them. If it doesn’t, take your fish to the vet and see if there’s anything they can do to help your pet.
You should also be aware if any of your equipment stops functioning. While some popular pets like goldfish can live for months without oxygen, others could die within two days. Unfortunately, even if you’re enrolled in weekly maintenance, that could be too late for our crew to save your fish. You should also be aware of how many fish you have swimming around in your aquarium. When smaller fish die, they decompose quickly. This can cause the water to become unhospitable because the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels will spike, which can be deadly for the surviving fish.
Tips For Maintaining A Healthy Aquarium
While Rift 2 Reef will take care of a lot of this for you, it’s always good to know exactly what you’re paying for and how to do it yourself in a pinch. So today, we’re going to cover the fundamentals. One of the biggest tips we can impart is to monitor how much fish food you’re using. If your fish aren’t eating all of it, cut back a bit. Also, if you notice fish food floating around or that plants are decaying, clean it out to keep the water clear and your fish healthy.
